The staff at Little Lights Preschool has years of classroom and teaching experience. However, our dedication and our desire to see your students thrive goes well beyond the classroom. We look at each child and their family as part of the Little Lights family. We pray for them. We pray with the parents. And, we are blessed to be able to serve in this way.
Mary Falvey, Director & Classroom Teacher
Mary Falvey is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame, Indiana and holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught for the School City of Hammond for seven years before “retiring” to spend her days as a full-time mother and home school teacher to three amazing young children. Mary is especially excited to be back in the classroom and is looking forward to working with preschoolers to develop their academic skills, and to share the love of Christ with Little Lights students.
Lois Kizer, Classroom Teacher
Lois has contributed as an assistant teacher in Little Lights since its inception in 2013. She brings a pediatric occupational therapy background to our program along with 35 years of experience in children’s ministry. Lois is the mother of two grown children whom she successfully homeschooled from preschool to college entry with merit scholarships. “So much important development occurs in the preschool years,” Lois says, “I consider it a privilege to have input at this stage of these precious children’s lives.”
Mary Beth Lubarski, Classroom Teacher
Mary Beth and her husband Dave have attended Suburban Bible Church for 23 years. During this time she has worked with Cubbies and Sparks in our AWANA’s program and was a youth leader for several of those years. For the last 26 years she taught English and reading at the middle school and high school level and is retiring this year. Upon retirement, Mary Beth is looking forward joining the Little Lights team.
Katie Cartagena, Classroom Teacher
Katie Cartagena graduated from Purdue University in 2011 with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Before coming to Little Lights in 2015, she worked in the public school setting in preschool and 1st grade. This will be her 9th year in the classroom. She believes that preschool is a special time for students to explore being good friends, develop fine/gross motor skills, and have fun learning through hands on activities, games, and music. She believes that each student will learn at their own pace and that her job is to encourage and support their growth along the way.
Anita Rose, Teacher’s Assistant
Anita has worked in the corporate world for over 40 years. She has been married for 43 years and has two sons. After retiring early, Anita began volunteering as a classroom assistant at Little Lights when we opened the doors six years ago. We are lucky to have her joyful spirit and dedication each school year.
Sarah VanGorp, Teacher’s Assistant
Sarah has been volunteering with children and youth in the church for almost 20 years. She has been involved with kids at all levels; in the nursery, awanas, Sunday school, children’s church and youth group. She is excited to be a part of little lights and help preschoolers learn about Jesus and the world around them. At home, she has a great husband, 2 teenage boys, a mother in law and an energetic puppy that keep her busy.
Nicole Miniuk, Teacher’s Assistant
Nicole holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Purdue University. She is also certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, able to treat individuals from birth through the lifespan. She is raising two amazing children, both of whom have received their preschool education at Little Lights. She has volunteered with children in the church setting for over 15 years. Nicole believes that each child has unique and wonderful gifts from God that need to be nurtured and cultivated in a loving and supportive environment.
